NATIVE PLANTS NATIVE PLANTS - Upstate Forever

This is a link to Upstate Forever Low-Impact Development fact sheet. It includes information for native plants that can be used in bioretention and as a lake buffer.

For bioretention and lake buffer they suggest plants that can withstand times of drought and times of partial-full submersion. Plants that can trap sediment and increase pollutant removal. Upstate Forever suggests using:
Trees- Red maple, Black gum, pond Cypress, ironwood, willow oak
Shrubs- Beautyberry, spicebush
Grasses- Switchgrass, Baker's cordgrass, Indiangrass, riveroats

Shoreline Stabilization (new)

This link is information provided by Duke Power on the lake and shoreline stabilization. They are up for recertification in 2016 and they must provide a Shoreline Management Plan for the surrounding lakes.

Shoreline Stabilization Technique Selection Process

On page 52, it states, "Bioengineering Vegetation – The types of plantings used in bioengineering and landscape-planting projects should be native to North Carolina and South Carolina, and must be reviewed and approved by DE-LS prior to introduction."(http://www.duke-energy.com/shoreline-management/keowee/executive-summary.asp)
